Egis Technology (Egistec) has reportedly grabbed fingerprint sensor orders for Samsung's new Galaxy A8-series smartphones, while Goodix Technology is expanding its business in China by launching a touchscreen controller and fingerprint sensor bundle sales strategy, according to industry sources.
Both Egistec and Goodix are expected to significantly grow shipments of their fingerprint sensors in the fourth quarter of 2015, said the sources.
The market for fingerprint sensors is set to expand thanks to a wider range of applications including notebooks, tablets, payment machines, industrial and automotive electronics. In addition to Egistec and Goodix, China- and Taiwan-based IC design houses such as FocalTech Systems, Elan Microelectronics, Holtek Semiconductor, Silead and SuperC Touch are all gearing up for the market boom.
