Five development trends are forecast for oscilloscope industry

Trend 1: from parallel measurement to serial measurement The embedded design generally adopts parallel structural system in the past; however, serial structural system is used for modern embedded design, namely continuous sending bus data. Not only is the circuit board space smaller and cost reducing, but power requirement is lower through embedded clock.
Therefore, oscilloscope manufactures provide all kinds of serial data trigger function, search character and protocol observing procedure, so as to help you find the events you care, and the events can also be decoded and measured. For example, AgilentInfiniium90000A series oscilloscopes have serial dada analysis software package that support a large number of protocols, including CAN、LIN、I2C、SPI、Flexray、SAS、SATA、XAUI、fibre-optical channel、DVI/HDMI、Infiniband and PCI-express(1.1 and 2.0)。 The MSO firstly appeared ten years ago was produced by HP/ agilent. It’s a synthesis tester with the usability of oscilloscope, measurement capability of logic analyzer and some serial protocol analysis function. On the display, you can see kinds of analog waveform and digital waveform arranged in time order. Although MSO can’t provide all the channels like logic analyser, the use of MSO can make up it completely. Logic analyzer is more complicated and hard to operate, but MSO is easy to operate. So customers can get their general oscilloscope in a customized manner. Trend 4: oscilloscope is more used for automatic checking, not debugging Oscilloscope was mainly applied to debug and design work by engineers and technicians before, for example, electrical fault diagnosed. Now, though the oscilloscope still have debugging function,the use of automatic checking is becoming more and more common. It also means we can check whether the equipment satisfies certain technical indexes of serial data standard.
Trend 5: better display
Nowadays, customers need better displays, there are many reasons. Firstly, people get used to using large and clear display. Secondly, many signals need to be displayed on the screen at the same time, including analog signals and digital signals. So the oscilloscope must be equipped with display big enough to display all the waveform correctly.
